Standard Mast Climbing Work Platform (MCWP) checklist (for reference)
1. Check brake levers are on machine (2 for twin mast, 1 for single) — drive up to first tie and function test emergency brake release
2. Check platform and all associated equipment has not been tampered with since last operation — pay particular attention after weekends or holiday periods
3. Check mast sections and ties are sound and secure — pay particular attention after severe weather conditions
4. Check goal post tie systems are sound and secure and confirm no unauthorised alterations have been made (if applicable)
5. Ensure no obstacles are present within the operating pathway or likely to cause hindrance during operation
6. Check all handrails and guards are in position and secure — complete any adjustments or replacements before operating
7. Check the area below the platform is suitably fenced off
8. Clear the platform of all unwanted debris and materials
9. Ensure all instruction notices including the maximum safe working load sign are in position and legible
10. Check trailing power cable is undamaged, properly uncoiled and routed to the platform safely — confirm it is looped onto the handrail
11. Carry out directional check — with main switch on, confirm up/down direction of travel is correct
12. Carry out operational check — confirm platform stops promptly, level and without slipping when directional control is released
13. Check condition and operation of all electrical limit switches and their functions, including the levelling system if twin mast platform
14. Check condition of base frame buffers and the area beneath the base frame including base frame packing
15. Confirm equipment is installed correctly and is safe to operate
